Island to island: German artist casts net wide for maritime exhibition

Friday 31 March 2023

A German artist has reached out to islanders to draw a fish for an exhibition at his pop-up gallery aiming to highlight the fragility of underwater habitats.

Andreas Petzold — from Föhr, a German island in the North Sea — has contacted islands across the world, including Jersey and Guernsey, as he seeks help to create his annual gallery.

Mr Petzold explained: "Over time, a large colourful collective artwork will be created from many fish of this world, from many islands of this world.

"The aim is to send a signal about how fragile, sensitive and vulnerable the water world is, not only around the islands of this earth."

Islanders interested in taking part can send their scanned designs to Mr Petzold via email and indicate where they are from.

He plans to hang all designs inside his studio gallery, which has 80 windows. You can track his progress by searching for the hashtag #fromislandtoisland on Instagram and Facebook.

In order to participate in the project, islanders need to download a silhouette version of a fish from kunsteins.de/dnbam

Mr Petzold’s email is: pan@kunsteins.de
