Google drives Jersey Pottery rebrand

Tuesday 31 May 2016

The Jersey Pottery cafés in town have changed their name to Café Ubé to stop online shoppers getting confused between soups, sandwiches, plates and bowls.

The company has rebranded its outlets in King Street, Colomberie and Liberation Station because when shoppers online were trying to find their ceramics range, they were getting lost in pages of soups, salads and sandwiches.

Their Banjo, Oyster Box and Jersey Crab Shack restaurants are not affected by the change.

In a statement on their website, the Jersey Pottery group – now called JP Restaurants – said that the new name was taken from a local dolmen.

They said: “The name change was driven by changes in the way we do business in this digital age.

“We found customers around the world looking to buy ceramics from our sister company used Google to search for purchases but ended up with a page full of results including what soup we had on offer in Jersey at our cafés.

“Conversely our local customers looking to search for our menu or online delivery found references to ceramics, resulting from its increased digital footprint clogging up their search results. So we thought the easiest solution was to drop the reference in our name!

“The new name Café Ubé, is taken from part of our local heritage – Mont Ubé dolmen in St Clement.”
