A grant of £270,000 of taxpayer cash has been given to the loss-making Battle of Flowers this year to help rescue the "intrinsic" part of island culture from the brink of extinction with a shiny new programme featuring UK music stars, Express can reveal.
The £270,000 in grant funding provided to Battle of Flowers organisers is nearly double the figure of £150,000 awarded in 2023, an Express Freedom of Information request has shown.
