Government "on track" to sign new ferry tender before Christmas

Friday 29 November 2024

The Government is "on track" to sign a contract with Jersey's new ferry operator before Christmas, according to the Economic Development Minister.

In a statement this afternoon, Deputy Kirsten Morel said that the preferred bidder for the island's passenger and freight services would be confirmed next week.

The Minister also explained that islanders can begin planning their travel arrangements for beyond March 2025 by completing expressions of interest that are available from both companies – Brittany Ferries and DFDS.

Deputy Morel's full statement said: “As previously stated, we are on track to sign contracts with a new ferry operator before Christmas and to name a preferred bidder in the coming week.

“Bids from Brittany Ferries and DFDS have been received and these bids are now being independently evaluated.

“Ministers will review the independent evaluator’s recommendation before making a final decision next week, as previously indicated to Scrutiny and in the States Assembly.

“Islanders can begin planning their travel arrangements for beyond March 2025 by completing expressions of interest that are available from both bidding companies.”

Ministers were forced to abandon the initial pan-island tender process after Guernsey revealed it did not want to wait any longer and decided to unilaterally  appoint Brittany Ferries.
