Greggs heading to Jersey

Thursday 30 October 2014

A Greggs bakery will open in Jersey by mid-December, with two more planned for the New Year.

Sandpiper have announced that the bakers are coming to Jersey, and that they expect to create 30 new jobs, with stores in Colomberie, Halkett Street and Les Quennevais Parade.

Greggs sell more than a million products in the UK every day, and have been trading for 75 years. They employ 20,000 people across nine regional bakeries and 1,700 shops in the UK.

Sandpiper chief executive officer Tony O’Neill said that the first advertisements for new staff would be placed in the next few weeks.

He said: “We continue to invest in our retail estate. Greggs is the market leader in UK bakery products and its reputation and success speaks for itself.

“The brand fits comfortably with our retail strategy to widen the choice of offer for local residents by bringing quality and value franchises to the Channel Islands.

“We’ll be advertising for staff in the next couple of weeks and once training has been completed we plan to open our first store in mid December.

“The others will open early in the New Year.”
