A serious head-on collision on Beaumont Hill yesterday afternoon left a 61-year-old woman in hospital overnight.
The woman was left in a critical condition by the crash, and needed emergency help from firefighters when they arrived on the scene.
She was driving silver Rover going down the hill collided with a black Mondeo travelling up towards the roundabout.
The two people in the Mondeo were taken to hospital with what police called minor injuries.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and helped to treat the people involved at the scene, and helped to remove them from their cars.
The police witness appeal said: “Both cars have collided head-on causing considerable damage and the driver of the Rover has received serious injuries requiring hospitalisation.
“The two occupants of the Mondeo were also taken to the Emergency department with what was believed to be minor injuries.
“The emergency services were on the scene shortly afterwards and are conducting investigations into the cause of the collision.
“Witnesses are also asked to contact the Police if they saw a similar coloured Rover between Val De La Mare Reservoir and the top of Beaumont Hill minutes before the collision was reported.
“Anyone with information should contact the police on 612612 or Crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
