Award shortlisting recognises Jersey student nurse experience

The positive experience of nurses being trained in Jersey has been highlighted in an award shortlisting.

The Higher Education Department within Health and Community Services has been named as a finalist in the ‘Best Student Experience’ category of the 2021 Student Nursing Times awards, which aim to recognise excellence in all fields of nursing and celebrate organisations that go the extra mile to support pre-registration nursing students.

The Pre-registration Nursing and Midwifery training programmes are so important to us as an Island community, not only do they provide an opportunity for Islanders to study and become part of a fantastic profession but they also provide Jersey with a steady supply of registered professionals who will join our workforce," Chief Nurse Rose Naylor explained.

The calibre of the programmes, the relationship with our university partners, the quality of the senior lecturers, and the support of our committed mentors in practice, all contribute to the success of the programme.

"I am so very proud of the team and it’s really well deserved to see them recognised in this way.”

That sentiment was shared by Senior Lecturer and Pre-Registration Programme Leader, Dr Hazel McWhinnie, who said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised for our dedication and passion for the nursing profession.

"Being shortlisted as a finalist is testament to the hard work of every student, every practice learning partner across the island and the senior lecturers that work to provide a student nursing experience like no other.”
