It’s Black Friday – and that means Brits are expected to spend a billion pounds online over the next 24 hours to grab bargains for Christmas.
But Black Friday doesn’t just mean bashing the credit card on mega international retailers like Amazon – who shipped an astonishing 5.5 million items on Black Friday last year - because there’s a load of local firms getting in on the act too.
Among the local retailers getting into the Black Friday feeling is BHS, who started early and are planning on going right to the wire.
General Manager Alex Harding said: "We opened at 6 am and it was a bit of a slow start but we did have people in at that time but from 8am onwards we've been busy and we're open until midnight tonight.
"It'll be interesting to see if certain times are better for people.
"Black Friday was one of our busiest days of the year last year but it was actually the Saturday after Black Friday that was the busiest here.
"We've got up to 70% off some things but everything is reduced across the store."
Town Centre Manager Daphne East says that at least 18 local retailers are trying to get in on the act too, including: Jersey Pearl, Roulette, M&S, Miss Selfridge at Voisins, White Stuff, Jon Richard, Jolai, Sweet Heaven, My Pad, Topshop and Fortuna.
