Hospital reopens to adult visitors

Tuesday 23 February 2021

Partners will be able to attend ante-natal scans again, while hospital and mental health facility patients will now be able to see loved ones in person from tomorrow - but only if the visitors are over the age of 18.

Visiting times will be between 14:00 and 16:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 daily, with exceptions made for those receiving end-of-life care, partners accompanying women in labour or for a scan, or the parents or guardians of children in the paediatric ward.

Only over-18s will be allowed to visit at this time, but the Government has pledged that this will be reviewed every two weeks. Express has asked for the rationale for this decision, and is awaiting a reply.

Patients will be asked to name a maximum of two relatives or friends for visits. One visitor will be able to attend at a time.

Pre-visit screening will remain in place to check for any potential exposure to covid-19. Anyone who has travelled to Jersey from another jurisdiction must receive a negative swab result before they can visit a patient.

Those attending will have to sign in at the relevant ward using a QR code system, use hand sanitiser, and wear PPE.

The easing of the covid restriction comes as Jersey’s covid numbers stood at 35 yesterday, while it was the third day in a row where no new cases were reported.

“This is very welcome news indeed,” Health Minister Deputy Richard Renouf said.

“We know it has been difficult for patients and their friends and relatives, but it is vital that our health and community services remain safe for patients, visitors and staff. I must also urge visitors to adhere to the guidance set out for them and to continue to follow covid-19 public health guidance.”
