If you ever struggle to change a lightbulb – imagine what it takes to change one at Jersey Opera House.
Its show-stopping chandelier is more than six foot high and takes 39 bulbs to light up the main auditorium and keeping it clean is no mean feat either.
The theatre called on a team from contractor G4s to help with the mammoth spring clean and it took five of them two days to get the 10,200 pieces of crystal sparkling again.
They had to spray it first, leave it for a couple of hours and then spruce up each piece individually.
The iconic piece was custom-made in France and donated by the JEC back in 2000 when the theatre was refurbished.
The chandelier is raised and lowered for every performance and interval and has to be cleaned every two years.
And if you did want to know what it takes to change one of its bulbs - the theatre's Marketing and Sales Manager Abi Nance said: "We have to lower the chandelier all the way down to seat level in the auditorium whereupon two technicians change the bulbs. Same process as changing a normal bulb. There’s just a few more of them and you need to be careful with the crystal!"
