Illuminated floats set to shine in Moonlight Parade

Friday 12 August 2016

Jersey’s Victoria’s Avenue will be lit up tonight as this year's floats once again line up to do Battle.

In less than 36 hours, volunteers will have transformed their amazing creations into illuminated works of art, and will be back on show competing for a host of prestigious awards.

The Optimists will be dreaming its entry – Ghost Ship – can do the double, and pick up best illuminated float to go with yesterday’s best float in show, the Prix d’Honneur. It’s the fifth time in succession the club has won the top award.

The other stars of the show - Miss Battle, 20-year-old Aimee Le Brun - and Mr Battle, 25-year-old X-factor singing star Joe McElderry, will also be shining brightly tonight aboard their illuminated float.

The parade takes to the Avenue at 21:00 and will end with a fireworks display at around 22:30. For the first time unique aerial gliders with wingtip pyrotechnics will also light up the night-time sky. Organisers hope it’ll provide a ‘wow’ factor to end the evening.

From around 18:00, drivers heading west from town will be directed along the Inner Road, and the Avenue will remain closed until about 01:00 on Saturday.
