Nutcracker night on New Street sets tone for Christmas

Tuesday 20 December 2022

If you need a hand to get into the festive spirit this year, then perhaps an "immersive" candle-lit tour, inspired by The Nutcracker, is exactly what you need.

It's being hosted by The National Trust for Jersey at the Georgian House on New Street this week.

The evening - deriving its theme from Ernst Hoffman's tale of the Nutcracker first written in 1816 - features mulled wine on arrival, live music, dancing and storytelling.

Local actor, Allan Gardener, will be bringing the story of the Nutcracker to life with a live storytelling session in the attic, two students from the Jersey School of Dancing will be performing the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to visitors by candlelight in the Drawing Room, Martin Coxshall will be performing works from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker on the Grand Piano in the Club Room and singers from My Harmonious Friends will greet visitors with Carol Singing in the 16 New Street garden.

The event will take place at the 16 New Street Georgian House from 20-22 of December.

Museums Manager, Catherine Ward said: “As Islanders explore the house by candlelight and make new memories with their families, we hope they will appreciate the value of heritage-led regeneration, and the importance of saving our historic buildings for visitors of all ages to enjoy and experience.”
