Water rates to go up by 2%

Sunday 28 February 2016

It will cost us all about 2p a day more for mains water from this Spring, which is an increase of about 2%.

Jersey Water’s Chief Executive Officer Helier Smith said: “Jersey Water works hard to keep price increases as low as possible. We are continually looking at ways to operate more efficiently in an environment where there is continuous upward pressure on costs. We have been very successful with this policy over the past decade which has led to the price of metered water falling by 10% after taking inflation into account.”

“Now that most of our customers are metered they are in control of their water bills, only paying for the water that they use, and many have seen their annual bills fall following the transfer to meter."

Jersey Water say up to a quarter of our energy bill comes from heating water so you may want to spend a bit less time in the shower!

Mr Smith said: "Customers looking to offset the price rise may wish to apply for our free Water Saving Pack which includes several water saving devices designed to reduce consumption (and water bills) in unobtrusive ways around the home.

“Last year alone we supplied nearly 300 water saving devices free of charge.  We also provide extensive water efficiency advice on our website and via our customer services team.

“An added benefit of reducing water consumption is the potential for customers to reduce their energy consumption, on average 25% of energy costs relate to heating water for baths, showers or the kettle.”
