Irish eyes on La Fête de Noué

Wednesday 04 November 2015

More Irish visitors could be heading to the Island next month for the Christmas festival.

St Helier's Fête de Noué has been ranked one of the top 10 coolest festive places to go by the Irish Independent.

It's ranked fourth - cooler than the Christmas markets in Vienna, Waterford, Berlin, Krakow, Copenhagen and Bath.

Here's how the Independent describes ours: "The island of Jersey has more than a touch of French Normandy to it. And from December 3-6, the capital is awash with festive lights at La Fête de Noué, the island's Christmas festival.

"A canopy of bright white lights engulfs the streets of St Hellier, and the covered Victorian market stalls serve up all manner of delicacies. At the visiting French market, you can find crèpe pans, Normandy cider and handmade soaps."

The Christmas lights are still going up in town as the Island prepares to get festive, and Town Centre Manager Daphne East says that they're looking forward to a truly festive season.

She said: "La Fête de Noué has cemented itself as a destination to attend in the seasonal calendar. St Helier twinkles with lots of visitors to explore from markets, street entertainment, school choirs and an abundance of retail and restaurants to experience.

"The Normandy French Market attracts locals and visitors to some wonderful delicacies.

"The Irish Independent has over 50% market share and therefore reaches significant print and online demographics. It would be interesting to understand the value of such articles and I'm sure this is something Visit Jersey would be interested in measuring."
