Island to escape battering from the Atlantic

Wednesday 07 January 2015

The UK might be bracing itself for a battering from the weather today but we’re unlikely to see the same gale force winds and downpours here.

The Met’s Duty Forecaster John Searson says that the stormy weather blowing in from the Atlantic that’s forecast to hit the north of England today and Friday isn’t coming our way and we’re just in for some wintery weather you’d expect at this time of the year.

He said: “We expect it to be breezy and on Thursday there will be rain, heavy at times. On Friday we’re expecting some very moist air to come up from the South or South East of the Azores and there will be a threat of some fog.”

80 mph winds look likely to bring down trees and damage buildings in the UK’s New Year storm and there are fears that torrential downpours could cause flooding.

We can expect to see rain here tomorrow and into the weekend but the mild temperatures look set to continue.
