Islanders are being encouraged to leave flowers on the steps of Ordnance Yard next to Jersey Museum, and books of condolence are being opened at Parish Halls to allow people to pay tribute to the victims of the two tragedies last week.

On Thursday, trawler boat L’Ecume II collided with the Commodore Goodwill in St. Ouen’s Bay.

Despite extensive searches, skipper Michael Michieli and his crew - Larry Simyunn and Jervis Ramirez Baligat – have not been found.

Then in the early hours of Saturday morning, a suspected gas explosion at Pier Road led to the collapse of Haut du Mont flats. Five people have now been confirmed dead and four remain missing.

The Bailiff’s Chamber announced this morning that islanders wishing to pay their respects can leave flowers and tributes on the steps of Ordnance Yard to the side of the Jersey Museum.

“The location has been chosen for the proximity of the Haut du Mont incident site and the solitude it offers. Please noted the site does not have vehicle access for the general public,” a spokesperson said.

Books of condolence are also being opened at Parish Halls:

A vigil service will be held at the Town Church at 18:00 on Wednesday, led by the Very Reverend Mike Keirle.
