The second annual Durrell Challenge is set to kick off today and organisers are “delighted” at the number of people who have signed up to take part.
More than 500 people are expected to run alongside Henry Cavill for the 13k race from St Helier to Jersey Zoo.
Lesley Dickie, CEO of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, commented: "We are delighted to be welcoming Henry back to his home in Jersey for the second Durrell Challenge. We are so grateful for his support and our aim is to raise over £50,000 to support Durrell’s mission of saving species from extinction. We have lots of great activities planned for the Family Fun Day and I look forward to seeing lots of our members and visitors enjoying a great day out at the zoo.”
Durrell have had entrants from up to 17 counties, and 32 VIP Runners who have all committed to raise funds in excess of £1,000 for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
The new Superhero Stroll has also proved popular and organisers said they are excited to see lots of mini Superheroes strolling around Jersey Zoo whilst looking at pop-up stalls and learning about the wildlife from keepers.
New this year is the introduction of a sports injury and rehab specialist who will be providing a post-race massage to those in need at the end of the 13k challenge.
Anthony Glennon from AG Physio will be providing help on the day, in association with Paul Deveney and Lorna Jackson from the Lido Physio & Spinal Clinic.
