Islanders hoping for a financial windfall…or to support a much valued charity will have their chance to do so today.

The 6,000 available tickets for Jersey Hospice Care’s Million Pound Lottery are going on sale. The tickets – which offer a one in 600 chance of winning at least £10,000 and a top prize of a cool million – cost £300 apiece.

The lottery is the charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year and is expected to raise £500,000 toward the operating costs of its specialist palliative care facility, which were £4 million in 2014.

The funds raised will cover the charity’s Community Bereavement Service, Day Hospice and Therapy Services for an entire year.

Demand for tickets is expected to high and Jersey Hospice Care’s Chief Executive Emelita Robbins is encouraging Islanders to buy early.

"The Million Pound Lottery draw day is one of my favourite days on the year,” she said. “I encourage everyone to buy their tickets early as they seem to sell out earlier each year.”

Tickets are on sale now until they sell out between 10 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, at NatWest's Bath Street branch. They are also on sale until Friday 27 May, Monday to Friday between 10 am and 3.30 pm, at the bank's Les Quennevais branch, and from the reception desk at Jersey Hospice Care on Mont Cochon, Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm.

“We are hugely grateful to all the volunteers who help us to sell tickets and donate their time to this event,” added Ms Robbins. “Our huge thanks also go to NatWest for hosting us again this year – we are very much looking forward to working with them.”

“Jersey Hospice Care is a vital part of our local community, offering specialist palliative care and counselling services for Islanders,” said Jeff Williams, NatWest’s head of retail banking. “We are delighted to support Jersey Hospice Care and their Million Pound Lottery for the fourth consecutive year by offering space in our banking halls. We wish Islanders the best of luck in what we hope will be another successful fundraising initiative for Jersey Hospice Care."

In addition to the top prize, there will be five prizes of £10,000 and one each at £25,000, £50,000, £75,000 and £100,000.

The lottery is only open to those over age 18 and payment can be made by cash or cheque.
