Islanders are being urged to support a new walking fundraiser for a local charity dedicated to helping survivors of rape and sexual violence which is currently at risk of cancellation.
Jersey Action Against Rape's first ever 'Stride for Survivors' aims to raise awareness and funds for sexual assault trauma counselling services.
Scheduled for 10:00 on Saturday 6 July, the walk will start at Layby 1 along Victoria Avenue, extending to St Aubin before returning. Participants are encouraged to wear purple, symbolising courage, and support for survivors.
“The Stride for Survivors walk is not just a fundraising event," explained Zoe Collins-Fisher, Community Engagement Co-Ordinator at JAAR, "it’s a statement of solidarity with survivors of sexual assault, showing them that they are not alone and that our community stands with them.”
However, low registration numbers are putting the event at risk of cancellation.
“We need the support of our community now more than ever,” Zoe said.
If registration numbers increase and the walk goes ahead, JAAR hopes the event will be a day of "unity, empowerment, and hope".
By joining the walk, attendees will be directly contributing to the provision of essential trauma counselling services in Jersey.
“Every step we take together brings hope and healing to those who need it most,” added Zoe.
