JCG’s online partnership aims to attract international students

Wednesday 24 April 2019

Jersey College for Girls has partnered with a Hong Kong-based online learning platform as part of a plan to attract international students to study in the island.

More details have emerged about JCG’s plans to bring over international students after the announcement of a “collaboration arrangement” with an online learning resource based in Hong Kong called ‘MommyDaddyMe’.

The all-girls secondary school is introducing the online learning platform to provide students with intensive English, STEM and coding courses, but also so they can connect with international students from China and elsewhere in the hope they’ll come and study at JCG.

It’s intended that these courses will initially be taught remotely by “experienced tutors from the UK and US” before being taught at the school itself with “on-campus sessions” later on.

The platform, which claims to be “specifically built for children and their parents”, allows students from across the world to connect with one another to learn as well as accessing educational resources.

Although ‘MommyDaddyMe’ is headquartered in Hong Kong, one of its founder shareholders is originally from Jersey.

It appears that this partnership will allow for JCG to attract international students from China and other countries as part of their bid to become a ‘residential school’ – an endeavour that has been part-funded with £100,000 of States’ money.

The statement announcing the partnership reads: “In addition to the customised programmes that will be jointly created, MommyDaddyMe will assist JCG to promote their existing programmes to MommyDaddyMe users in China and elsewhere.”

JCG Principal Carl Howarth hopes that the venture will improve the school’s “brand”, as he explained: “Partnering with a high quality platform like MommyDaddyMe.com will help us enhance our brand and will make our highly recognised programmes accessible to top students across Asia.”

Javed Rahman, CEO of the self-described “pioneers of safe social connectivity”, commented: “This is a great moment for our team and a validation of what we have been working on - providing world-class learning resources to our children.

“Partnering with JCG will not only enhance our credibility as a world-class company, it will help with our mission to help parents develop their children with best in class skill sets and prepare them for next phase of their learning career.”
