Jersey Arts Trust appoints a new Chairman

Sunday 19 March 2017

Jersey Arts Trust has announced the appointment of a new Chairman, Philip Hewat-Jaboor.

Mr Hewat-Jaboor is a private art advisor for collectors, museums and designers on buying and selling paintings, furniture and works of art.

Tom Dingle, Director of Jersey Arts Trust, said: “We couldn’t be more delighted by Philip’s appointment.”

“His knowledge of the art world and global networks will undoubtedly be a huge asset for the Trust and for Jersey, as well as the commitment and dedication he shows to the causes that he supports. There couldn’t be a better person to help us build on Alan’s legacy and achieve our aims for the future.”

Mr Hewat-Jaboor started his auction career at Sotheby's Belgravia in 1972, and in1982 he opened his consultancy business with the aim of providing independent advice for new collectors.

As an independent museum consultant he also has curating experience.

Mr Hewat-Jaboor has co-curated exhibitions held at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts in New York and at Dulwich Picture Gallery, as well as at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Locally, Mr Hewat-Jaboor has been instrumental in the conception of the Jersey Percentage for Art scheme, which aimed to form an island-wide collection of primarily sculpture commissioned work from leading British artists.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Hewat-Jaboor said: “The Jersey Arts Trust has an extremely important role to play in supporting, developing and nurturing the creation of new artistic work in Jersey and beyond.

“With the organisation’s role evolving in exciting new directions, I am looking forward to it growing from its existing platform and fostering new connections locally and internationally. I strongly endorse its focus on putting artists first and I look forward to building on Alan’s excellent work.”
