A local charity has successfully delivered 10 tonnes of goods - ranging from clothes to bedding - to those in need in Romania.
The aid delivery also included more than 40 boxes generously packed by members of the public, which have now been distributed to needy pensioners in Bihor.
The aid consigment was the first sent by Mustard Seed Jersey after the UK officially exited the EU.
The charity saw the shipping, which involved extensive paperwork completed both in Jersey and Romania, as a 'testing of the waters' for shipping goods post-Brexit.
Co-ordinator Rose Helie-Pallot described it as a “steep learning curve", adding: "I am really grateful to Condor Freight transport manager for his advice and to Jersey Customs."
Following the success of the delivery, the charity will now be able to make plans for future consignments.
The charity commented: "Mustard Seed thanks a large number of people for this team effort, starting with those who give goods and funds; those who volunteer their services so freely and generously; businesses who give discount like Condor Freight, Calin our Romanian haulier, Raul Freitas Landscapes for use of equipment, and FerrySpeed and Morvan Fils in Saint Malo for their assistance."
