After shining a light on the talents of local makers, Jersey Heritage will be exploring local stories of immigration in a new exhibition opening in March at the Museum.

"People Make Jersey – our stories of immigration" is one of many events Jersey Heritage has planned for 2020.

With talks, tours and events, the schedule should have something for everyone.

To help make a selection, the team at Jersey Heritage has shared a handful of highlights.

12 January - Wassail

Hamptonne Country Life Museum

Pictured: The custom of wassailing dates back to pagan times.

"This winter-warming community event celebrates the orchard at Hamptonne with a Wassail, encouraging a good crop of apples in the autumn ready for the Cider Festival.

Crown the King and Queen of the Wassail, dance with the Jersey Lilies and enjoy bread, cheese and a glass of warm cider together, between 13:00 and 15:00.

17 - 21 February - Vikings!

Pictured: Youngsters will get to discover more about the Vikings for half term. 

The Vikings have invaded! Head to the Maritime Museum over February half term - Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:00 - to discover more about these Scandinavian sea warriors.

Join Jersey Heritage for five days of fun with stories, crafts, music and action. Dressing up is optional…but loads more fun!

20 - 22 March - Jersey Family History Festival

Pictured: The Family History Festival returns with a military theme this year.

The theme of the festival in 2020 will be ‘military’ with plenty of talks and tours throughout the days, from 10:00 to 16:00 Friday to Sunday.

Free entry - donations welcome. Booking is advised for the talks.

From 26 March - "People Make Jersey – our stories of immigration"

Every Jersey resident has an immigration story, whether their family came here 500 years ago or five years ago. This community exhibition explores some of these stories and the ways in which immigration has shaped and influenced the island we know today.

25 - 26 April - La Fête du R'Nouvé

Welcome in the season of renewal at La Hougue Bie. Our mini boutique festival celebrates the arrival of spring with music, food, artists, nature activities and an unrivalled community atmosphere.

Join the celebrations - between 10:00 and 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday - under a canopy of trees, bring a rug, hang out and look forward to warmer weather together.

From 1 May - A Day to Remember – Liberation 75

Pictured: This year, Jersey will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of its celebrations.

This most happy and momentous time in Jersey’s history is celebrated and commemorated in this exhibition. It shares islanders’ stories about that marvellous period, reveals the feelings of the community on its significance to them, and looks at how it shaped the value we place on freedom today. 

Free entry - donations welcome. 

24 - 25 October - La Faîs'sie d'Cidre (Cider Festival)

Pictured: La Faîs'sie d'Cidre celebrate the apple harvest.

Everyone’s favourite autumnal event brings together communities, volunteers and of course apple and cider experts to celebrate the apple harvest and make cider together.  

But it’s not all about the cider - live music, creative activities, dance, competitions, poetry, Genuine Jersey stalls, great food, great company and a fantastic atmosphere, there's lots to do, things to learn, people to meet and fun to be had! 

From 10:00 to 19:00 on Saturday and 10:00 to 17:00 on Sunday.

28 - 29 November - Victorian Christmas

Pictured: Islanders are invited to step back in time for a Victorian Christmas.

Relax in the frenetic run up to Christmas by taking some quality time out to spend with the children in your life...before your Christmas to do list completely takes over.

Come to the Jersey Museum - between 10:00 to 17:00 - to see Royston South performing his Christmas Magic show, find out what the elves on the shelves have been up to this year in the Victorian House, make something lovely for someone you love and visit Father Christmas.

 £1 donation, which includes access to all exhibitions at Jersey Museum & Art Gallery."
