Jersey Heritage volunteer Michael Ferns is currently exhibiting in the Link Gallery at Jersey Museum showing examples of his illustration work from the soon to be published ‘Jersey Heritage and Culture Map’.

The publication consists of a map and guide book with walks designed to provide both tourists and locals with an insight into the Island’s historical landmarks, rich history and unique culture.

Designed, researched and created entirely by dedicated volunteers this project is being part funded by Jersey Heritage and the team are hoping to secure some sponsorship.

Michael has been a Jersey Heritage volunteer for over four years. During this time he has worked on many projects including the illustration of an educational book about the Battle of Jersey, which has since been published.

Jersey Heritage Volunteer Co-ordinator Julia Coutanche said: "Michael is without doubt one of our most hard-working and focused volunteers. The Jersey Heritage and Culture Map project is testament to his self-discipline, tenacity, talent and the huge amount of time and effort he has given as a Jersey Heritage volunteer over the past four years; a truly fantastic achievement for which we congratulate him.”

Volunteers enable Jersey Heritage to complete the huge amount that they do on a daily basis in 2015 volunteers contributed 16,790 hours to the organisation. Their time, energy, talents, and enthusiasm are not just for the benefit of Jersey Heritage, but also for the whole Island.

Michael said: “I started volunteering because Jersey’s heritage is something I am passionate about. I love the Island’s history and expressing it through drawing. It has been a great opportunity to put my talents to good use and at the same time an enjoyable experience. I also wanted to do some volunteering to boost my CV.

Jersey Heritage welcomes new volunteers and you can find out more about getting involved here.

Michael’s work is on display in The Link Gallery at Jersey Museum until 29 May. Entry to the exhibition is free and it's open every day from 9 am - 5 pm.
