UK leaders heading to Jersey for green-themed summit

Housing affordability and green energy will be among the topics of discussion at a summit being held in Jersey later this week which will be attended by senior Ministers from across the UK.

The island will this Friday (16 June) be hosting the 39th meeting of the British-Irish Council, which is made up of representatives from the UK and Irish governments, the devolved administrations of the Scottish and Welsh governments and Northern Ireland Executive, as well as the governments of Crown Dependencies.

It will be the fifth time that the meeting has been held in Jersey.

The theme for this year’s summit is "Building for the Future: Green and Affordable", focusing on affordability of housing, energy efficiency in building, retrofitting, future skills, modern methods of construction and innovation.

Chief Minister Kristina Moore said she was "looking forward" to the summit, which would be focusing on "key policy areas which are relevant to us all".

She continued: "The summit also provides an excellent opportunity to demonstrate all that is best in our beautiful island and provide the Council with an opportunity to experience Jersey’s culture, cuisine, and hospitality.

"I am also especially pleased that members of the Jersey Youth Parliament will be involved in the summit. BIC Summits have become increasingly important in recent years, and our continued engagement and discussions will help to shape a sustainable future for all our jurisdictions."
