The Library’s branching out this year to make sure we can visit without leaving the house.

Bookworms with soon be able to apply for a library card online and access its growing collection of magazines, e-books and reference books 24/7.

Chief Librarian Ed Jewell said: ““All the physical attributes of our Library continue to grow but we’re very conscious that a lot of people spend a lot of their time and their leisure time online and we want to ensure there is a strong and vibrant library service in the digital world as well as the physical world.

“If you’ve got a library card, what we’re planning to do later on this year is have it so that people can get reservation reminders, overdue reminders – all online to let them know they are due back.”

Jersey Library has had a range of e-books available for just over a year now and they’re proving to be popular page-turners - last year it loaned out around 5,000.

Education has bookmarked the Library's digital service as part of its new business plan to give Islanders the use its services without visiting the physical library.
