Couple invent "fun and revealing" drinking game to test friendships

Thursday 19 May 2022

An islander and his fiancée, who have always wanted to be entrepreneurs, have invented a drinking game that aims to reveal who is “unworthy” of players’ friendship.

Inbetween day jobs and looking after their toddler over the past 14 months, Jersey man Jack O’Connor and his fiancée Asheline McCloskey developed 'UNWORTHY'.

The game ditches trivia in favour of personal questions about players' own life experiences.

Jack and Asheline gleaned inspiration for UNWORTHY during lockdown after playing countless other games that they described as "unbelievably dull".

They started talking about what sort of game they'd make if they were to make one of their own, and then spent evenings and weekends learning how to use Photoshop and Illustrator in order to make their ideas a reality.

"It's so easy to get stuck in a rut of talking about the same old stuff, so we wanted to create a game that would help people break out of it and create fresh opportunities to bond and to learn new things about each other,” Jack explained.

“The idea is to test your friends, family or partner on how much they actually know about you, with light-hearted but personal questions that only your closest allies would know the answer to,” he added.

“It’s a fun and revealing way to get a conversation going while enjoying drinks with friends, and because of the way we've designed the questions, you'll definitely learn something new about each other.”

It's a good time to be getting into the market - Statista estimates that the tabletop games market will be worth $12bn by next year.

Asheline added: "It’s been 14 months of making time to get everything sorted but we’re really pleased with the end result.

"Hopefully it results in lots of awesome nights of drunken bonding for people!"

The game can be ordered online from the UNWORTHY website or via Amazon.
