Jersey passport fees set to increase this summer

Saturday 11 February 2023

Jersey passport fees and express service fees will be going up this summer - with the price of a standard adult passport increasing from £85 to £93.

However, there will be no change to the fees for temporary emergency passports when the change comes into force in June.

The increase will "ensure passport applicants contribute significantly towards the cost of passport services", with the additional income being used to offset the cost of the service provision.

The cost of passport services has risen recently with the implementation of new systems, passport security features and the resources implications of British Citizen passport holders using their passports at the borders.

The UK will be introducing new fees for both passports and associated services this month.

They have justified the increase coming during a cost of living crisis by explaining that passport fees are not only set to recover the costs associated with the issuing of a passport, but also contribute to the costs of other elements that are directly associated with the use of a British passport, such as some consular services and the processing of British nationals at the UK border.

Jersey passport fees were last increased to align with the UK in October 2019, and Guernsey and the Isle of Man have both indicated that they are also likely to support this year's fee increase.

No such thing as a Jersey passport. There are British passports applied for in Jersey then printed in the U.K.

I don’t want to see the fees increased but I must say that the service I received last week was excellent. My new passport was received on Friday 4 days after my application had been hand delivered.

It's about time that Jersey looked to issuing its own passports.
