Jersey Post begins multi-million pound refurbishments

Monday 27 July 2015

Broad Street Post office and the Rue des Pres head quarters are undergoing modernisation which includes new technology to allow a 24/7 service for customers.

The refurbishments are just part of a multi-million pound plan which will see parcel lockers at locations around Jersey to make it easier for people to collect packages that couldn't be delivered first time round. The Broad Street Post Office lobby has already been converted into a 24/7 service point and work has now started on the other customer facing areas.

Tim Brown, Chief Executive of Jersey Post said, "The work at the Broad Street post office will create a very modern and convenient environment for our customers, with improved access to services and more personal contact with our staff. Our recent customer survey revealed once again very high levels of satisfaction but we listen to feedback and constantly look for ways to improve. This investment is a significant strategic programme for the business and is in direct response to the demand for greater levels of flexibility and convenience for our customers.

"We want to make sure our buildings are modern, welcoming and fit for purpose. The work at Broad Street, and also at our Rue des Pres headquarters, will result in yet higher levels of service delivery helping to meet customer expectations of a modern postal service."

The Broad Street post office will see a separate customer suite area, with a dedicated customer services representative based there. At present the customer service team is only at Rue des Pres. There will also be photo booths where customers can print their pictures and produce passport pictures, as well as a self-service area to reduce queuing.

The secure parcel locker service has been trialled in the Channel Islands for the first time in Jersey. They consist of different sized lockers, which can also incorporate chiller or freezer units for perishables. When an item is received by Jersey Post, the customer is sent a pin code to access the locker 24/7 and retrieve their item. The trial is now being extended to include various locations around Jersey, including the General Hospital, and lockers will be installed at Broad Street and Rue des Pres.

The refurbishment work at Broad Street is being undertaken in phases to minimise inconvenience. Once complete Jersey Post  will be able to relocate services currently delivered from Commercial Street to the front of the building, making access easier for customers. The works will also include initiatives to improve staff working conditions.
