Jersey RFC prepared for final battle at Bedford

Jersey’s Rugby coach says he’s confident his team can win their final Championship game of the season against Bedford tomorrow.

The Reds are currently sat at the bottom of the table after another tough loss against London Scottish at home last weekend so they need the win away this weekend if the team is to survive in the Greene King IPA Championship for a third season.

Head Coach Harvey Biljon said: "This is a cup final for us – we are going there to win, and are confident in our ability to do so.

“We don't need reminding that the league table has reversed since this time last week, with Ealing having points in the bag, but we cannot control other games - we need to concentrate on beating Bedford, and then once that mission is accomplished we will know whether we have done enough."

Although in theory Jersey could avoid relegation by achieving a draw, or two losing bonus points, against Bedford, the reality is that the Islanders will be striving to win the game on the notorious sloping pitch at Goldington Road. Even a victory may not be enough - rivals Ealing have a two-point lead, and if they can match Jersey's result in their home match with Rotherham, the Londoners' great escape will be complete.

Jersey will hope that Rotherham, who have qualified for the end-of-season play-offs, can repeat the 79-9 defeat they handed Ealing when the two sides met earlier in the season.

The match kicks off at Goldrington Road at 3pm.
