For many, it's all about 'New Year, New Me'. Express found out how Jersey Sport is aiming to help islanders achieve their fit goals and get Jersey in good shape in 2018.
Following on from the States' 'Fit for the Future' strategy, Jersey Sport will be implementing a new a new Active Living strategy for the island in the New Year.
Launched in 2013, the States' five-year strategy aimed to capitalise on the island's hosting of the Island Games to encourage more islanders to take part in physical activity and to inspire young people to make sport a habit for life.
Setting out their plans for the new year, the team behind Jersey Sport (pictured above in their Christmas jumpers), headed by Catriona McAllister, told Express what's on the cards for them...
"2017 was a huge year as Jersey Sport was born as the new organisation to oversee, co-ordinate and develop sport in the island. While we feel we’ve made a big impact already in our first six months, next year will be an important one for us as we fully get into our stride.
"We hope 2018 will see more islanders, getting more active, more often. Whether that’s the 7-year old trying badminton for the first time at one of our afterschool classes, or the 77-year-old getting back into sport through one of our walking football sessions.

"At elite level, it’s another Commonwealth Games year. While it’s not all about winning medals, it would be brilliant to see one of our top sportsmen or women becoming the first Jersey competitor to make it onto the podium since 1990. Gold Coast promises to be a stunning backdrop and we’re hoping for some inspiring performances. Good luck to the squad.
"Perhaps our biggest piece of work in 2018 will be the implementation of a new Active Living strategy for the island. The States of Jersey’s “Fit for the Future” strategy has given us the springboard to now bring forward our own priorities to drive forward a more active island.
"Aligned with this we’re hoping to see improved levels of governance in local groups and our new Sports Partnership Manager will start early in the new year to help volunteers make sure their organisations are in good health behind the scenes.
"We’d like to wish the island’s sporting community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on and off the pitch."
