Jersey’s young musicians to star in ‘A Night At The Movies’

Saturday 24 March 2018

Around 200 talented young musicians and singers from 28 of the Island’s schools are busy rehearsing in the final hours before their performance of a ‘A Night At The Movies’ at Fort Regent tonight at 19:00.

Islanders are being invited to pick up their hotdogs and popcorn and listen to the soundtracks to some of our favourite movies.

The evening star children aged eight to 18 and will include performances from the Training Wind Band, Training String Orchestra, Intermediate Wind Band, Intermediate String Orchestra, the JMS Guitar Ensemble, Jersey Youth Orchestra and Jersey Youth Wind Band.

They’ll be playing theme tunes from The Lego Movie, Jungle Book, Shrek, Man of Steel, Pirates of the Caribbean and many other well known movies.

The children will come together for a special finale, a special rendition of Two Steps from Hell, Flight of the Silverbird from the film, ‘Battleships.'

Dr Graham Cox, Principal of Jersey Music Service who teach over a thousand children to play musical instruments across the Island, said: “This is a great opportunity for our young musicians to perform at a large-scale concert, some for the very first time.

“Being a musician is all about performing which can be a bit daunting to start off but these youngsters will be working as a team and developing their self-confidence as they play together. This promises to be another really exciting evening of music and of course no movie night would be complete without hot dogs and popcorn which will be available for our audience to buy on the night!”
