JT completes Jersey's first 4G network

Monday 11 May 2015

The installation of Jersey’s first Island-wide 4G mobile network has been completed by JT on time and within budget, delivering superfast mobile broadband across all 12 parishes.

JT’s Chief Operations and Technology Officer, Dave Newbold, said: “We’re really proud to announce that our 4G network is now live across the Island, meaning JT’s customers will be the first to enjoy superfast mobile broadband.

"This was a significant project for us, and I’d like to thank the team who worked really hard to ensure there was as little impact on customers as possible when installing the new equipment. We’re also delighted to confirm that we have started to install our 4G network in Guernsey to deliver the same excellent service for our customers across both Islands.”

JT has invested over £12 million in its state-of-the-art Long Term Evolution (LTE) Advanced 4G network which can be easily expanded and upgraded when the latest mobile technologies, such as 5G, become widely available.

JT’s 4G service is not a premium service meaning that whether the customer is using 2G, 3G or 4G the price of data will be the same.

As part of the installation of 4G, JT has also upgraded its 2G and 3G services across Jersey, so that customers will now see an improved mobile service, irrespective of which one they are using, particularly inside buildings.

Mr Newbold added: “We continually work to ensure that our customers have access to the very best in communications and by investing in Jersey’s infrastructure we have combined an Advanced 4G network with our superfast fibre-optic networks so that Channel Islanders can enjoy some of the fastest data speeds in the world.”

Customers will need a 4G-enabled mobile handset, and to ensure that “4G” or “LTE” is selected in their mobile network settings.
