Drivers on a night out are being offered free soft drinks again this year.
The Liberation Group are urging people to 'go soft' and giving out non-alcoholic drinks to designated drivers to discourage them from boozing and getting behind the wheel.
You can get free soft drinks from now until New Year's Eve if you show your car keys to the bar staff in many of the Group's bars, pubs and eateries across the Island taking part in the Soft Drink Drive campaign.
Liberation Group's Chief Executive Officer Mark Crowther said: ‘We introduced the Soft Drink Drive campaign several years ago to promote sensible driving over the Christmas and New Year holidays and the initiative has proved extremely successful in discouraging irresponsible driving decisions.
“In addition to offering free soft drinks to designated drivers, all our staff have the details of local taxi firms to help people find alternative ways of getting home at the end of the night. Of course we want our customers to enjoy themselves during the festive season but we want them to do so in a manner that is safe for both themselves and for others.”
Police say they'll be stepping up their road checks in the coming weeks.
Acting Inspector Paul Smith of Jersey Police said: “During the festive period the States Police and our Honorary colleagues will be conducting high visibility patrols and road checks across the Island.
“There is never an excuse to mix alcohol and driving, it's a clear and simple message - do not drink and drive, don't put yourself and others at risk. The Liberation Group's soft drink drive initiative has run for several years and we continue to be very supportive of it. It allows people to enjoy an evening out with friends and family, but not take any unnecessary risks.”
