King’s birthday party latest island event to be rained off

Friday 14 June 2024

The celebration of the King's official birthday at Government House set for this evening has been cancelled due to the bad weather forecast – and it will not be rescheduled.

Lieutenant-Governor Vice Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd and Dr Karen Kyd were set to welcome islanders to the grounds of Government House for an evening of events marking the King’s official birthday.

However, the event has now been cancelled due to the forecasted bad weather conditions.

The planned celebration included music performances by Les Quennevais School's Steel Band and La Ronde Concert Band, a 21 Gun Salute by the 1781 Jersey Militia, as well as displays by the Band of the Island of Jersey.

It's one of several island events to fall victim to bad weather.

Yesterday's Jersey Heritage Summer Nights Sessions – a music event due to take place at Gorey Castle – was rained off.

This weekend's hotly anticipated Sunset Concerts from the National Trust at Grantez have also been cancelled due to high winds and rain.

They will not be rescheduled, the Trust announced yesterday.

The annual TMF Island Walk, however, is still due to go ahead.
