Lack of confidence in Deputy Andrew Lewis prompts resignations

Monday 21 August 2017

Two States members have quit a committee headed by Deputy Andrew Lewis because they no longer have any confidence in him.

St Helier Constable, Simon Crowcroft, and St Helier Deputy, Judy Martin, have both tended their resignations from the Public Accounts Committee.

In a letter to the Bailiff the politicians say “they no longer have confidence in the Chairman, Deputy Andrew Lewis, following the conclusion of the Privileges and Procedures Committee investigation which found Deputy Lewis has broken the Code of Conduct for States’ Members.”

The resignations will take effect from the first States sitting next month.

In announcing his resignation from the PAC, the Constable of St Helier said: “I am sorry to leave the Committee having just completed the Police Station review and with other interesting reviews in progress.”

Deputy Martin said: “I have really enjoyed working on the PAC and I am sad to be leaving but I think the Committee needs a complete overhaul so it can carry on the very important work that needs to be done.”
