A Government programme hoping to encourage young talent to join the Jersey public sector is being launched for its third year.
The Jersey Public Service Early in Careers programme offers paid internships to young islanders, with the aim of encouraging them to take up a career in the public sector.
The initiative was piloted in 2021, before being fully launched in 2022. Last year, 84 people applied with 41 securing a six-week placement across a range of departments.
The programme will run for six weeks in the summer from 24th July to 1st September and is hoping to accept 50 interns.
Education Minister Deputy Inna Gardiner said “There is a wealth of talent and skills in Jersey, and the Early in Careers programme is a way we can identify, grow, and harness that talent.
"I’d encourage any university students – whether studying on or off-Island – to consider applying for an internship to gain valuable work experience alongside their studies.”
Thomas Pope, an intern in 2022, said of his time: “I joined the Government of Jersey internship program to experience what work is like in the public sector whilst developing transferable skills that I can use in my future career."
