Less than a week to win a year’s free ferry travel

Wednesday 17 December 2014

More than 1,000 names have already been put forward for the competition to name Condor’s new £50 million fast ferry which is due to come into service in March.

Condor say that since launching the competition and offering a prize of a year’s worth of free travel they have been overwhelmed with the response.

The competition closes on 22 December and anyone who wants to have a go should fill out a form in the JEP and either post it to Condor or just stick it into one of the big bottles in town or at the Condor Ferries desk at the harbour.

Alicia Andrews, Executive Director – Commercial, Condor Ferries, said: “Across the Channel Islands, people have responded brilliantly to the naming competition.

“We still have half the competition period to run and we’ve already received over 1,000 ideas for names.

“There’s no doubt that people across the Channel Islands have felt inspired and excited by the arrival of the Condor 102. Being able to name the ship itself is a unique opportunity that people definitely want to be involved with.

“I know that the panel of judges will want to have as wide a choice as possible, so I urge even more people to send in their ideas for names in time for the closing date of 22 December, which is less than two weeks away.”

The new ship – an Austal 102 – will be based in Poole, and Condor say that it will improve reliability, increase capacity and give passengers more comfort while aboard.

Condor announced that they had purchased the ship after signing a new ten-year deal to sail the Jersey to UK route.
