Live music to return to the Trafalgar

Sunday 19 June 2016

Music will float once again through the rooms of the Trafalgar Inn as the pub has been granted permission to resume hosting live acts by the Licensing Assembly.

The St Aubin pub had been forced to halt hosting artists for four months when a condition was placed on its licence.

The pub had primarily local acts performing in house on Friday and Saturday nights and occasional Sundays for years before being forced to halt the practice in February.

But last week manager Neil Whitbourn was successful in having that condition removed from the licence.

St Brelade Connetable Steve Pallett said the parish was happy to have acoustic music played live at the pub and that the condition be removed from its licence. “It’s not for rock bands or karaoke which could cause problems regarding noise,” he said.

Police also supported the condition’s removal. PC Andy Du Feu said that while there had been no complaints from local residents about the noise from the pub, on occasion the parish’s Honorary Police had taken issue with the noise levels.

Following discussion with Mr Whitbourn and some small modifications made to the pub – changes to an extractor fan and the addition of acoustic curtains – “we have no objections as long as noise levels are kept to a sensible level and don’t impact on the wider community,” PC Du Feu added.

“On the occasions that the premises does provide music, they are very busy and very jovial, everyone seems to be having a good time,” he said.

Pub manager Neil Whitbourn welcomed the decision.

“I’m very pleased,” he told The Bailiwick Express. “It’s great because it’s a return to what we did before. So all the people who loved listening to live music here can come and do the same again.”
