Jersey band enjoying 'la dolce vita' after MTV accolade

A Jersey band is striking a chord with European audiences after being featured on MTV Italy’s ‘Top Ten Most Played’ list alongside artists such as Franz Ferdinand and The Fratellis.

Mozaics have been enjoying success in Italy following the release of their single ‘Before We Grow Old’.

Commenting on this achievement, singer and guitarist Christian Silver said: “It feels great to be in the top ten with artists like Arctic Monkeys and Florence and the Machine. It reaffirms that we can make the music that we like in perfect isolation, and it still translates to a global audience.

“We’re also playlisted on the biggest national Rock radio station and TV channel over there too which is just quite wonderful. We’re humbled.”

Mozaics, who headlined Groove de Lecq festival last year, is comprised of Christian, Chris Nutter (drums/vocals), Tom Quenault (keys/synth) and Craig Farrell (bass/vocals).

According to Christian, 'Before We Grow Old' is a nostalgic track about being young and carefree: “inspiration for the song came when reminiscing over the period of time before adult obligation hits… where you have your first love and get to spend all day and night together, just being in the moment and not taking anything seriously.”

The MTV Italy feature appears to have translated into more exposure for the track’s music video, which has had over 200,000 views across its UK and Italian release.

Christian told Express about Mozaics’ increased reach: “This is incredible for us, we’re really excited by the response we’ve had. Every day we get more news about where our music is reaching. Yesterday we saw it [the track] on a top 40 UK list from Vodaphone.

“It’s also playlisted in shops, restaurants, bars and service stations in the UK. So if you’re in in Subway sandwich shop or a Claire’s Accessories and you hear us, you’re not dreaming!”

The band, who received a grant from ArtHouse Jersey in 2016 in order to fund and promote their 2016 music video for their single ‘Always Want You’, already have their next single in the pipeline.

Commenting on their new music, Christian said: “The next single is very different to anything we’ve ever done, and people close to us are more excited about this one than we’ve ever seen them. I’ve pushed myself vocally on this record and I think people will be surprised by the composition. Not a single guitar chord in sight... (or sound).”

When asked about the band’s summer gig plans, Christian said that islanders should, “...keep an eye on our social media. Everything else is under wraps just now!”
