Man (55) to stand trial over alleged child sex assault

Monday 27 May 2019

A man in his 50s accused of sexually assaulting a young girl will face trial for the alleged offence.

Manuel Antonio Marques Duarte (55) denies the accusation that he indecently assaulted the girl and will therefore face a trial in the Royal Court.

On Friday, Mr Duarte was represented in the Royal Court by Advocate Michael Haines, who indicated his client’s ‘not guilty’ plea to the charge.

Solicitor General Mark Temple appeared for the prosecution and both counsels agreed on a date for a further hearing where arrangements will be made for trial.

Ahead of this date, Mr Duarte has been released on conditional bail.
