Thursday 02 July 2020

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly dragging a man in his 50s out of a car and attacking him in St. Brelade.

Police said the reported assault took place just before midnight yesterday (Wednesday 1 July) in the area of the junction between La Route Des Quennevais and La Rue Carre.

Describing the alleged sequence of events in an appeal for more information they said: "A dark blue Ford Fiesta travelling from the direction of the airport towards Les Quennevais stopped suddenly in the middle of the road and the front seat male passenger got out, opened the rear door and dragged another man out of the car and assaulted him. The two men ended up grappling on the grass verge at the junction with Pont Du Val.

"Following the assault the male suspect got back in the car and it drove off towards Les Quennevais. The victim, in his 50s, incurred minor facial injuries which were treated by hospital staff the following morning."

A 28-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of assault, but was later released on bail.

Police are now looking for witnesses. In particular, they would like to speak to the male driver of a vehicle that stopped directly behind the incident and was believed to have got out of his car to see what was happening.
