Man to be sentenced for kicking brother unconscious in "nasty" fight

Friday 30 September 2022

A 25-year-old man who left his brother unconscious after kicking him twice in the head has been found guilty of grave and criminal assault.

Jake Robertson faced a three-day trial in the Royal Court this week, and will now be sentenced in November.

He was first arrested in July 2021 after Police were called to a fight at Bonne Nuit Pier.

Robertson had kicked his brother twice in the head, rendering him unconscious, and later slammed him into the hard floor.

Many members of the public were around, and attempted to intervene at the time.

Robertson and his brother both initially pleaded guilty.

While his brother was sentenced to community service in the Royal Court in June of this year, Jake Robertson decided to change his plea to 'not guilty' which led to the case going to trial.

"This was a nasty outburst by both parties in a very public place," said Police Constable Celio Abreu after the sentencing.

"Behaviour like this isn't acceptable and offenders will be dealt with robustly. I'd like to thank those members of the public involved and to those witnesses that helped on the day. "
