Inquest opens into death of man at Crabbé

Police have now confirmed the man who was found dead in the Crabbé area on 21 January was 60-year-old João José Ferreira.

Mr Ferreira was found dead in his 4x4 by paramedics in a car park at the east of Crabbé at around 10:25.

He had been reported missing, but the search was called off under two hours after the body of a deceased male was located. 

An inquest yesterday into his death heard PC Glenn Cleave say that Police are not treating it as a suspicious death. 

A post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Bruce Lyons, consultant histopathologist at Jersey Hospital. Further testing is being carried out regarding Mr Ferreira's levels of insulin at the time of his death, as he was a diabetic.

Born in Faial, Santana, in Madeira, Mr Ferreira was a married father and worked as a delivery driver.

In the hours following his death, family and friends posted heartfelt tributes on social media. Many added a black banner to their Facebook profile photos featuring the word 'Luto', meaning 'mourning' in Portuguese.

The inquest has been adjourned pending further enquiries and Mr Ferreira's body has been released to allow his family to make funeral arrangements.
