Tractor driver in hospital after roadside crash

Wednesday 12 September 2018

A 25-year-old tractor driver has been taken to hospital after a dramatic crash that saw 60 litres of oil slick a St. Mary road this afternoon.

The tractor - a Massey Fergusson 5455 - sustained significant damage in the La Rue de la Frontiere collision and the road will remain closed until it is lifted onto a recovery vehicle.

The tractor's hydraulic pump was damaged in the accident and approximately 60 litres of oil leaked out onto the roadway. Firefighters used environmental protection mats to soak up the oil.

Despite the dramatic scene, the tractor's unnamed driver managed to escape the twisted wreck with a suspected broken arm and attended the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and the cause is being investigated by Police.
