Thursday 08 February 2024

A 40-year-old man has been sentenced for stealing a bicycle wheel and two jackets, and for possessing three different illegal drugs.

Eduardo Jose Martins Dos Santos was also fined for a number of unpaid parking tickets.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that Dos Santos stole the front wheel of a bicycle in Bath Street on 28 December. The wheel was worth £75.

The same day he was captured by CCTV in De Gruchy’s department store putting on two jackets and leaving without paying for them. They were together worth £441.

When police officers went to Dos Santos' home on 5 January, they found a small amount of cannabis and tablets of the Class C drugs diazepam and tramadol.

The court was told that the bicycle wheel and jackets were recovered undamaged.

Dos Santos was given a 12-month probation order and fined £600 for possession of the drugs.

He was also fined £480 for the parking offences, to be paid at a rate of £200 per month.
