Man 'suffers face injuries in brawl of up to 20 people'

One man has been arrested and police are calling out for witnesses after a man was allegedly attacked during a brawl involving around 20 people.

Officers said the reported “disturbance” outside Tropical Bistro in the area of David Place and Stopford Road took place around 22:45.

According to Police, the alleged victim – described as wearing all black and being in his late 30s to early 40s – “had been walking with friends along David Place when he was attacked and allegedly kicked a number of times while he lay on the ground.”

He received a number of facial injuries, which had to be treated in hospital. He did not have to stay overnight, however, and was later discharged.

Police said “a second man described as being approximately 18 years old, tall, skinny build with short blond hair, wearing a blue and white long sleeved polo shirt, blue jeans and a pair of black and lime green trainers, was seen to run away from the area prior to police arrival.”

They added that one man was arrested, but no one has been charged. They also said it is believed that the individuals involved in the alleged brawl knew each other.

Officers now want to hear from anyone who was in the area of David Place and Stopford Road on Saturday night and saw what happened – particularly anyone who may have recorded the incident on their phone or anyone with dashcam footage.

Those able to help are asked to contact Police on 612612 or make an anonymous report via Crimestoppers’ online form.
