Condor ferry suffers engine fault

A fault with a ferry's engine led Condor to cancel its high-speed sailings between Jersey, Guernsey and Poole today.

A spokesperson for the ferry operator explained that a mechanical fault with one of the Condor Liberation's three engines plus forecast high-speed winds would together make it unsafe for the vessel to dock.

A decision was therefore taken to refund or transfer passengers due to travel the Channel Islands and Poole onto an alternative sailing, such as today's Commodore Clipper morning sailing, if space permits.

Pictured: Condor also said that tomorrow's high wind speeds played a part in making docking unsafe.

The fast ferry service affected was the 06:30 departure from Poole, which was due to arrive in Guernsey at 09:30 before continuing to Jersey at 10:00.

Passengers were informed of the disruption by email, text message and via the company's customer contact centre.

In the interim, the company assured that their team were working hard to repair the mechanical failing.

"Condor's engineers and the engine manufacturer continue to take apart, repair and reassemble the engine as soon as possible," Condor said in a statement.
