More tributes from friends and neighbours to pensioner found stabbed to death

Wednesday 26 October 2016

Residents are still struggling to come terms with what’s being treated as the murder of a pensioner in St Helier on Friday night.

73-year-old John McCarthy was spotted lying in the driveway to Vauxhall Gardens, Vauxhall Street, in St Helier, and the emergency services alerted.

They treated him on the scene and took him to hospital where he was later officially declared dead. It’s alleged he’d been stabbed to death. A man has since been charged with murder.

Neighbours say they’re still shocked something so frightening could happen in such a quiet area of town.

Many friends and neighbours are continuing to lay flowers – many of them with messages attached - near the sight of where Mr McCarthy was found. Others have been posting comments on social media.

Amongst the messages attached to the flowers –

John, rest in peace old mate. Mick.

Rest in peace John. You didn’t deserve to pass on like this. Your next door neighbour. Milly.

John boy you will be missed. Rest in peace. Natalie.

To a special friend we shall miss you. Shazelle.
