Thai police have named the young Jerseyman found murdered on a beach yesterday as 24-year-old David Miller.

David's body was found alongside that of 25-year-old Hannah Witheridge from Great Yarmouth in the UK. Police are investigating the brutal murder of the pair, who were found on a beach on the diving resort island of Koh Tao.

Their bodies were discovered just yards from where a beach party was happening – the island has now been closed off as Thai police try to find who was responsible.

It has been reported that a weapon was found near the scene and that police are reviewing CCTV evidence.

It has also been reported that the police are looking for a friend of the young Jerseyman, who left the island in the hours following the tragic deaths.

The head investigator, Police colonel Prachum Ruangthong described the murder scene as “very gruesome” adding that the pair both suffered extensive injuries.

Jersey Police say they are working with both the Thai and British Authorities who are leading the investigation.

Chief Minister Ian Gorst has released a statement, saying: “I am deeply saddened by reports that a young man from Jersey has died in Thailand. My thoughts are with his family and friends, and the Jersey authorities will provide any support they can.”

The Foreign Office said: "We are aware of the death of two British nationals on September 15 on the island of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand.

"The embassy are urgently seeking information from the local authorities and consular staff stand ready to provide assistance to friends and family at this tragic time."
